The TLIC3004 Drive heavy rigid vehicle is the latest nationally accredited unit involving the skills and knowledge required to drive a heavy rigid vehicle safely in compliance with relevant state/territory road and traffic authority licence requirements and regulations including road rules for heavy rigid vehicles. This unit is perfect for drivers who are:

  • Drivers aged 20 years or older holding a valid Class C licence for at least two years, or a Class LR or MR licence for at least one year, who are upgrading to a Heavy Rigid (HR) licence in compliance with the Department of Transport WA standards.
  • Individuals in WA employed or aiming to enter the transport and logistics sector, particularly those who need to operate heavy rigid vehicles such as trucks with three or more axles and a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) over 8,000 kg.
  • Professionals sponsored by employers, needing nationally recognised training to operate larger fleet vehicles and fulfil job-specific licensing requirements mandated by WA transport regulations.
  • Members of the general public seeking career advancement opportunities or qualification changes, specifically targeting roles in heavy vehicle operation within the logistics and transportation industries in WA.

How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via Blended delivery (online distance + face to face).

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in up to 1-3 Days. Duration will depend on the previous experience:

  • HR-A: 1-2 days
  • HR-B: 1-2 days

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend approximately 05-18 hours of study depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn?

This course is designed to develop your expertise in transport and logistics. Among others, you will learn to:

  • drive heavy rigid vehicle
  • monitor traffic and road conditions
  • monitor and maintain vehicle performance

How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through:

  • Documentation (e.g. Hazard Report, Faulty Equipment Report, Vehicle Records, etc.)
  • Practical skills demonstration assessments
  • Questioning – Written or Verbal

What are the entry requirements?

Students must:

  • Be 20 years of age and over
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Have sound Language, Literacy, and Numeracy skills
  • Complete Form E114 – PDA Customer Eligibility Form
  • Undergo eye test (Better eye at least 6/9, worse eye at least 6/18)
  • Have good general health and fitness for practicals
  • Have any of the following:
    • A valid Class C licence for at least 2 years, or
    • A valid Class LR licence for at least 1 year, or
    • A valid Class MR licence for at least 1 year

*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place.

What are the resources needed to complete the course?

To support you in your new course with WA Safe Driver Training, we will provide the following:

  • Reading Materials and Assessment Workbook
  • Computers
  • Heavy rigid vehicle
  • Others:
    • A range of relevant exercises, case studies, and/or simulations
    • Relevant materials, tools, equipment, and PPE current used in the industry
    • Applicable documentation, including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

  • Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
    • Internet access preferably through Google Chrome
    • MS Word and Powerpoint
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader

What are the course fees?

The TLIC3004 Drive heavy rigid vehicle course fees may differ on the type of vehicle:

Heavy rigid vehicle A

$1,150.00 = $575.00 upon enrolment then $575.00 before certificate issuance

Heavy rigid vehicle B

$1,250.00 = $625.00 upon enrolment then $625.00 before certificate issuance
